Craig Bard
Firearms Instructor Bio:
Craig Bard joined the Freedom Ammo family in August 2023, and has provided personal one-on-one firearms training for many of our firearms enthusiasts at our range.
While Craig has extensive experience as an instructor and agent in federal law enforcement, local police, and the military, he particularly enjoys working with newcomers to the world of firearms. His personable approach and systematic understanding of how shooters learn proper mechanics quickly help novices become confident and competent.
Craig’s teaching focus is to promote a shooter’s confidence through efficiency and proficiency of fundamental weapons handling as well as marksmanship. Whether the training required by the student is with a pistol, rifle or shotgun, Craig knows exactly how to level up your game through a strong understanding of – among other areas -- balance, grip, aim, and mental focus.
His strong interpersonal skills as well as his extensive firearms background allow Craig to work with students of any level. His analytical understanding of firearms gives him the range necessary to make the novice comfortable with basic shooting or help the expert to tighten up groups, fire more quickly without losing accuracy, and get the most out of his or her firearm and ammunition.
Prior to Freedom Ammo Craig Spent 31 years in government service. For the last 25 years he was with the Department of Homeland Security, where he held various positions, including Field Agent, Team Member, Training Instructor, Supervisor, and Training Supervisor. During his time in training, he was privileged to share the same training arena with several Tier 1 military operators and specialized unit members. Craig has learned from top-level instructors and combines his experience in learning and teaching to provide a comprehensive, organized, and productive experience for those he educates on the range.
Before answering the call to serve the Department of Homeland Security, Craig served his community as a Police Officer as well as served his country as a United States Marine. A diverse background gained through a career of service continues with Craig now serving the public again as a civilian instructor. The training and experience Craig gained by serving the American people is priceless and he looks forward to sharing what he’s learned.
Stephen Heaney
Firearms Instructor Bio:
First time ever shooting a gun was in 1983, and I was hooked. I purchased my first revolvers the following two years. I joined the United States Capitol Police (USCP) in1986, and I served on various units to include their tactical team C.E.R.T. While on the team, I was a certified counter-sniper/observer.
Soon after my time with USCP, I was hired by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 1991. Served with the FBI for twenty-five plus years. During that time my collateral duties included certified SWAT operator/counter-sniper, team leader, tactical instructor, and firearms instructor.
As an FBI certified tactical instructor and firearms instructor, I had the opportunity to train hundreds of agents and police officers. Since retiring from the FBI, I have had the privilege to continue training retired law enforcement officers and civilians. My training philosophy is safety with healthy doses of patience and positive attitude.
